BIO

Born in Barcelona, Jan’s path into music began with a dual focus: double bass performance at the Superior School of Music of Catalonia (ESMUC) in Barcelona and composition at the Royal College of Music in London. These two disciplines shaped his early relationship with music, allowing him to perform with some of the most renowned orchestras and chamber music ensembles from his country, including the Franz Schubert Philharmonia and the Murtra Ensemble, while simultaneously developing his path in composition.

Coming from a family involved in theater, Jan’s first experiences as a composer were naturally linked to this artistic field. He has worked with renowned and well-established theater companies such as Il·lús Teatre (for Feliç perquè t’estimo), La Calòrica (for Feísima Enfermedad y muy triste muerte de la reina Isabel I), and Etcétera Teatro (for Almavera), with his music showcased and performed in some of Spain’s most prestigious theater venues, such as Teatre Lliure and Centro Dramático Nacional.

His interest in video games inspired him to explore this interactive art form, leading to his first game score for Oniria Crimes (cKolmos Narrative, 2020), a collaboration with Greek composer Christos Kiourtidis. This experience was followed by his work on the critically acclaimed indie game Ugly (Team Ugly, 2023).

Driven by the desire to take the next step and deepen his understanding of video game music and interactive technologies, Jan approached industry-acclaimed composer Olivier Derivière in 2021. Since then, he has worked alongside him and his studio AMEO by collaborating on the music and music design of projects such as A Plague Tale: Requiem (Asobo Studio, 2022), Steelrising (Spiders, 2022), and GreedFall II (Spiders, 2024), gaining invaluable insights into complex and intricate interactive music systems and technologies that enhance the immersive experience for players. This experience has clearly influenced Jan’s approach to music.

With a classical training background and as a performer himself, Jan’s music often features collaborations with live musicians, whose unique interpretations bring life and character to his compositions. At the same time, his curiosity about the possibilities offered by technology leads him to blend diverse sounds, connecting acoustic with electronic, melodic themes with ambient textures, and tradition with experimentation.

Beyond his work in theater and video games, Jan’s compositions include concert music, which he often creates from a simple, intrinsic need to compose. His album Converses reflects this creative impulse, offering listeners a glimpse into his musical voice.
